I’m Rachel Snyder and this is a bit about my life, I am currently a student at Drake University. It is my second year here and I am majoring in Digital Media Production with a concentration in social sciences. I chose Drake University because when I visited I could see Drake as my second home. It has that campus feel I was looking for. Drake is a smaller school therefore I can form connections to the professors and fellow students with ease.
I’m from Barrington, Illinois, which is a suburb of Chicago. Growing up I swam all the way up into college. I attended Barrington High School where I was on the varsity swim team and was a part of the Student-Athlete Leadership Club. As well as the water polo team and Ceramics Club!
Furthermore, I like nature, for example going on hikes, bike rides, working out, basically any physical activity I enjoy. I like the outdoors because it is a peaceful place where I can go to relax. In my hometown, Barrington, IL, my favorite park to go to is called Citizens Park. It has beautiful hiking trails and a large grass field that is just perfect for picnics.
One of the hobbies that I am quite passionate about is digital photography. I have been doing digital photography for about five years. In high school, I took a photography class for all four years and got to learn the true art of taking photos.
Also, enjoy going to downtown Chicago because I absolutely love the city’s architecture and design. Every building is so unique in its own way which makes exploring downtown even more fun. I hope to one day be able to work in Chicago as a young adult to get that city living experience. (In the picture above on the left I’m near Wabash Avenue in front of Lake Michigan.)
Another thing I am involved in is the Alpha Phi sorority at Drake University. Alpha Phi was one of the first women’s fraternities to establish a Foundation. Their mission became to help fight heart disease – which is the #1 killer of women in North America. The Alpha Phi Foundation supports programs that research the treatment of heart disease in women. Additionally, Alpha Phi hosts events such as, the Red Dress Gala that not only raises money that goes towards Women’s Heart Health but, spreads awareness to it. On October 9th, 2020, we raised $18,000 for Women’s Heart Health, our goal was $10,000. I raised $370 dollars, which was the most out of my pledge class, and am proud of the hard work everyone put in!
